Many fans took to social media to react to the news on Thursday afternoon.

Many supporters expressed disappointment on Twitter, with some understanding the health concerns but others worried about the impact of the mounting backlog on the season.

One fan tweeted: “Disappointed not to be going to my first match at Old Trafford in quite a while, but looks like it might have been the right decision in the circumstances.”

Another United fan questioned what the increasing postponements would have on the Qatar World Cup next winter.

Several supporters called for a sensible approach before the outbreaks get out of hand, including one who said: “The Premier League needs to be sensible for once and just postpone all matches for the winter period. Anything to try and get all these outbreaks under control.”

United’s next scheduled game is two days after Christmas when Ralf Rangnick’s men are due to visit Newcastle United.

One United fan questioned the likelihood of this match going ahead, saying: “No game before Xmas now. Due to play on the 27th, be interesting to see if that goes ahead though.”

Some fans, understandably, turned back to matters on the pitch, and expressed their frustration at games being called off so early into a new era at Old Trafford.

One Red Devil added: “Sigh, finally get a good manager and have a good run of games coming up and now the outbreak hits.”
