Gareth Southgate gives England injury update on Man Utd duo Harry Maguire & Luke Shaw
The Three Lions manager was speaking ahead of Monday’s friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Gareth Southgare has said Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are ‘progressing well’ from their respective injuries, with the Manchester United duo facing a race against time to be declared fit ahead of Euro 2024.

The defenders were named in England’s provisional 33-man training squad, which will be cut down to 26 ahead of this summer’s tournament in Germany.
Maguire hasn’t played since 27 April due to a muscular problem which forced him to miss United’s final five matches of 2023/24. As for Shaw, the only natural left-back named in the squad, he has suffered an injury-plagued campaign and managed just 15 appearances, the last of which came in mid-February.
The pair met up early with the England squad last week to work on their fitness issues, but Southgate confirmed neither will play in Monday night’s friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James’ Park, along with Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
“All are progressing well, so we're pleased with the progress they've made,' Southgate said when asked about the trio. “None of them will be involved tomorrow.
“I think Anthony has a good chance to be available for Friday [against Iceland]. The other two a bit more unlikely, but we will just see how quickly they can go really.”
Asked for more detail on Shaw, Southgate added: “I think I said last week that until we had the players in front of us working with us, there was a lot of information that we didn’t have.
“We’re pleased with how he’s progressing. There’s still a bit to do before he can get on the pitch in a game situation. But he’s in with a good chance.”
John Stones and Bukayo Saka also won’t be involved on Monday as they’re on different training regimes from the rest of the squad, while Kyle Walker, Kobbie Mainoo, Phil Foden and Jude Bellingham are yet to meet up with the group.
The Three Lions begin their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on 16 June, before group matches against Denmark and Slovenia.
