Gary Neville has launched a scathing attack against Manchester United owners the Glazers, following the club’s 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Sunday.

The Red Devils were second best during the game at the London Stadium and were soundly beaten by David Moyes’ side, who should have scored a few more goals in the second half on top of Said Berahma’s goal in the first period.

After the match, Neville took to social media to vent his frustration at United’s performance, but rather than point the finger of blame at the players or manager, the ex-defender said the fault lies with the Glazers. The club’s protracted takeover process looks unlikely to be resolved soon, which is already having an impact on United’s summer transfer plans.

It’s unclear at this stage whether a takeover will be sanctioned, partial investment will be accepted, or the Glazers will just continue as before, leading to uncertainty around the club. It also may be impacting the team’s on-field performances - although there are other factors at play - and United lost a second game in a row on Sunday which leaves Liverpool just a point behind in the top-four race.

“United so poor in this game,” Neville tweeted. “ETH [Ten Hag] seeing more of the players in these situations is a positive. Allows him to sort out who he wants on the bus.

“The real disgrace are the Glazers. Are they waiting for the last game at OT to pass??? It would be typical of them. Weak and shirking accountability and responsibility to the end!

“Members of staff on and off the pitch are in an uncertain position waiting for new owners! Let alone recruitment and what budget their is going to be! This should have been done! Classless to the end!”

In a follow-up tweet, Neville added: “They told ETH (when he needed a striker with CR7 going) he couldn’t spend any money. They sanctioned those other two deals after Brentford 4-0 to save their backsides as they were under pressure. They sign the cheques and take responsibility for everything post SAF! They’re a shambles!”
