Fabrizio Romano has described Manchester United youngsters Facundo Pellistri and Amad as ‘important players for the future of the club’ and believes the Red Devils ‘will not lose money’ on their 2020 investments.

The pair both joined United on deadline day three years ago but have been slowly incorporated into the first-team picture, with Pellistri and Amad making just a combined 18 senior United appearances between them.

But the young attackers have shown encouraging development this season, with Pellistri making his debut and first start for United in recent months, while also earning praise from Erik ten Hag. Meanwhile, Amad has impressed for Sunderland on loan in 2022/23 and has netted nine goals from 29 Championship appearances this term.

With Antony, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford ahead of the pair in the pecking order, it’s not clear what the future holds for Pellistri and Amad, but transfer guru Romano said both players have a future at Old Trafford.

“They are doing very well - Amad on loan and Pellistri with the Manchester United first team,” the journalist said on his YouTube channel. “Erik ten Hag didn’t approve a loan for Pellistri in January. Pellistri had many proposals: Bologna, Sassuolo in Italy, some Spanish clubs and Flamengo in Brazil. But Ten Hag wanted him to stay.

“Now what is going on? Both players are doing very good - Manchester United will make a decision on them between April and May and they will discuss with the players’ agents to decide. They are very happy with these two players and they are convinced they will not lose money. So it means that the plan was smart and good.

“For Pellistri, Man United are prepared to offer him a new contract and then decide if they want to send him on loan next season or keep the player in the squad. That is something which has to be decided with Erik ten Hag.

“For Amad Diallo, they want the player to play and play and play. Amad Diallo, when he is on the pitch, he is always doing good but he deserves to play, to be in the starting XI. So Erik ten Hag is also appreciating his approach on loan but they will make a decision on these two players. But Manchester United feel they will not lose money on Amad and Pellistri and they could be two really important players for the future of the club.”
