Fabrizio Romano: £73m star will only be at Man Utd next season if Amorim does 'something absolutely crazy'

Man Utd will focus on player sales in the summer transfer window to address their tight financial situation.

Manchester United will prioritise the full sale of Jadon Sancho in the summer transfer window irrespective of whether or not he is signed permanently by Chelsea.

The 25-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan move last summer, with the obligation to make it a permanent transfer at the end of the season. Chelsea agreed to pay United a fee in the region of £20 million to £25 million to sign Sancho, but can pay a £5 million penalty to get out of a deal if they want to.

It means there is a chance Sancho could return to Old Trafford in the coming months, in what would be a blow to United's early summer business. Ruben Amorim had banked on having at least £20 million to reinvest in the playing squad from the sale of Sancho, but could be forced to wait for another transfer to be agreed before he knows his budget for the summer.

Manchester United still want to sell Jadon Sancho

Jadon Sancho has had a rather poor season at Chelsea, with just two goals and seven assists in 31 appearances for the club. Enzo Maresca has refused to be drawn on the Manchester United forward's future, further fuelling the speculation of a potential return to Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano has provided plenty of updates on Sancho's situation and has now reiterated that United plan to sell the winger this summer, unless there is a shock change of heart from head coach Ruben Amorim.

“Let me clarify something on Jadon Sancho, I told you in recent weeks that Chelsea have an obligation to buy for a £25m package," Romano said on his YouTube channel. “So that’s an important part of the story, obligation to buy but with a clause worth £5m to basically send the player back to Manchester United in case they decide to not activate the option.

“But what I wanted to mention guys, is that my information on the recent stories about United is that even if Chelsea decide to send the player back to Old Trafford, the plan for Jadon Sancho and United is not to continue together. So the priority for Sancho is to stay at Chelsea – he still hopes to stay at Chelsea. In case Chelsea decide the opposite and send the player back to United, the current expectation is not for United and Sancho to continue together.

“It would take something absolutely crazy and completely driven by the coach, by Ruben Amorim, because the management already wanted to sell Sancho one year ago.”
