Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United 'optimistic' over major summer signing with negotiations 'ongoing'
Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United 'are optimistic' they will sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves in the summer transfer window. Manchester World understand United are interested in a move for the 25-year-old and have identified him as their preferred attacking midfielder addition at the end of the season.
United have prioritised the addition of a striker in the summer transfer window, but head coach Ruben Amorim also wants to add an attacking midfielder to his playing squad as he looks to increase their firepower in the forward line. Wolves have scored 10 more goals than United in the Premier League this season and Cunha has netted 14 during the campaign. Bruno Fernandes is United's leading league scorer with eight to his name.

United are keen to target players with Premier League experience where possible and could soon reach an agreement to bring Cunha to the club.
United 'optimistic' over Cunha deal
The good news for Manchester United is that a move for Matheus Cunha might not be so difficult to complete. The Brazilian insisted on a £62.5 million release clause when he signed a new Wolves contract in January, and in that sense would be a rather straightforward deal.
Wolves would want the bulk of the fee paid upfront, though they are likely to be open to some of the money being paid in instalments, which would lower the initial output from United's financial perspective. There is also hope United should be able to raise plenty of money from player sales, so a move is not dictated by Champions League qualification.
Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano issued a brief update on Cunha and a possible move to Old Trafford. "The negotiations are ongoing on player side. Discussions are going well, Manchester United are optimistic," he said.

"Manchester United are leading the race to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves as negotiations are ongoing," he said. "Personal terms are being discussed, as Man Utd are aware of more clubs keen + £62.5m release clause available. Good feelings after initial contacts between Cunha and #MUFC."
