Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United in 'active talks' over unbelievable summer signing - fresh contact made

Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United are in 'active talks' to get clarity over the future of Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres in the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim has prioritised the signing of a striker this summer, with the Sweden international viewed as the dream addition in attack.
Gyökeres netted 54 goals in 52 appearances as Sporting won a league and cup double, with his best football coming in the first few months of the campaign under the guidance of Amorim. Romano claims the 27-year-old was presented with an opportunity to leave the club in January, but remained loyal to them as they went in pursuit of domestic honours.

United in 'active talks' for Viktor Gyökeres
It is important to note there has been no official bid for Viktor Gyökeres from any club this summer, though Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United have entered 'active talks' to clarify his situation. That does not mean they are speaking directly with Sporting but are discussing a potential move with those close to him to gauge what the terms might be.
In a social media post on Wednesday night, transfer guru Romano wrote: "Tense situation between Viktor Gyökeres and Sporting. Despite previous pact for exit worth fee around €65m w/add-ons, Sporting president insists on higher fee. Price still under €100m clause but not €65m now. Gyökeres, described as furious."
Romano then provided a more substantial update on the situation in his latest YouTube video, where he claimed there has been fresh contact from United over a deal. "Basically, there was a pact between the agents of Gyökeres and Sporting since last summer, for Sporting to accept this summer a transfer fee around €65 million plus add-ons. So not the release clause of €100m.

Then the coach (Ruben Amorim) left in November and maybe any other top player would say 'I am going in January', no. Viktor Gyökeres respects Sporting, wins the league and also the cup. So Sporting were prepared to give the green light.
"But today, the president of Sporting says in public he is not accepting a €65m transfer fee for Viktor Gyökeres. He wants more, not €100m, but more than €65m. The player is not happy with that, we saw on social media he removed the Sporting reference, he was expecting to be facilitated in his exit from the club this summer. The president says there is still no official bid, but let me repeat, the calls are still there.
"Manchester United have called last week, have called over the weekend and they have called again this week, to be informed about the player, to understand their conditions, to understand what is going on with Sporting. To understand if there is still a chance to make it happen financially after not making it into Champions League. So Man United have been in active talks in terms of understanding the situation, not club-to-club talks. There is no bid from Manchester United, we will see later in the next days."
