Manchester United want to sign another midfielder this summer.

Manchester United remain interested in signing Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to reports.

United are in the market for a new midfielder and have been linked with a move for Romeo Lavia, although Sofyan Amrabat remains the primary target at present. But Goretzka offers an interesting alternative for the Red Devils, with the German international experienced at Champions League level.

As per Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, United could consider a move for Goretzka, a player ex-Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel doesn’t see in his first-team plans at Bayern.

“ManUtd never lost their focus on Leon Goretzka. Understand the 28 y/o is still on the list of the club,” the reporter tweeted. “Goretzka wanted to stay 100 % - but the last ten days have clearly shown that he won’t be a starter under Tuchel for now.

“Tuchel is planning with Kimmich/Laimer and wants a new holding six on top. Difficult situation. ManUtd & Goretzka, situation to watch! Still a dream target for West Ham.”

Goretzka had indicated last week that he planned to remain in Munich this season, and told Sky: “'I have no intention to leave Bayern. I love the club, I love the city, I love the fans.” Despite that, Tuchel’s reported plans could change the ex-Schalke man’s mind and end Goretzka’s six-year stint at the Allianz Arena.

Meanwhile, if United were to make a move for the central-midfielder, the club would need to sell a number of players. The Red Devils had earned fees for Alex Telles and Anthony Elanga this summer, but Erik ten Hag is still willing to let Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly, Harry Maguure, Brandon Williams, Scott McTominay, Fred, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial leave Old Trafford.
