The Danish striker is set to face Manchester City for the first time in his career.

Rasmus Hojlund has said it would be a ‘nice’ feeling if he could score his first Premier League goal in this weekend’s Manchester derby.

The boyhood Manchester United fan is set to face Manchester City for the first time in his career when Pep Guardiola’s side travel to Old Trafford on Sunday, and Hojlund said he is looking forward to a ‘special’ occasion.

The 20-year-old has scored three goals in three Champions League matches since arriving from Atalanta over the summer, but has yet to get off the mark in the Premier League from his opening six appearances. Hojlund has continued to impress despite drawing a blank so far in the English top flight, but the Danish international is desperate to bring that record to an end against City.

“It would be a big experience, so I am looking forward to it. It is always special to play a rival and if we win the game, we can get closer to the top, so it would be nice,” he said on Tuesday, after United's Champions League win over Copenhagen.

And Hojlund’s favourite memory from a Manchester derby? That’s an easy one… “The bicycle kick from Wayne Rooney, of course! Everybody remembers that, don’t they?

“I play for my boyhood club. I have always supported Manchester United, so I am living my dream every day,” he added.

Hojlund won’t be the only blonde, Scandinavian striker playing at Old Trafford on Sunday, and the clash with City will be his first meeting with Erling Haaland. Given the similarities in their careers, the youthful attackers have drawn direct comparison with each other in recent months, something that Hojlund admits he doesn’t think is fair at this stage of his career.

“Like I’ve said many times, I don’t want to be compared to him,” explained United’s no.11. “He is incredible and probably the best striker in the world right now. We can keep that on the low for now, but I hope I can improve and then we will see what I am capable of.”

United head into the derby in eight place, while City sit second in the table, two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur.
