United will have to do so without a number of key players after confirming fresh setbacks to both Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans earlier in the week. Scott McTominay will also miss the match while Marcus Rashford will face a late fitness test.

It means United will have to make up the numbers with academy talent, and Wheatley is the player who has been chosen to fill their squad. Here is everything you need to know about him…

Name: Ethan Wheatley

Date of Birth: Jan 20 2006 (18)

Born: Stockport, England

Position: Centre-forward

Squad number: 84

Wheatley has been one of the shining stars for United U18s this season and has played a key role in their surge towards the title.

He has 18 goals and five assists across all competitions this campaign, including three goals at U21 level. Wheatley netted a hat-trick in United’s emphatic 9-1 victory over Liverpool last weekend, shining as a traditional No.9.

The teenager has been capped up to U17 level with England and signed his first professional contract at United in January. He is a contender to feature in this summer’s pre-season schedule, when a number of senior players will be involved in the European Championship.

Due to his involvement in the Youth League and EFL Trophy he was given the No. 84 for the current campaign.
