Erik ten Hag suspension: Why Man Utd manager will miss next Premier League game against Everton

Erik ten Hag will miss Manchester United’s next Premier League game, which comes against Everton on 26 November.

The Dutchman received his third booking of the league campaign on Saturday in the 1-0 win over Luton Town, which incurs an automatic one-match ban. Ten Hag was shown the yellow card in injury time at Old Trafford, as the ex-Ajax boss disputed a throw-in that was awarded to Luton right in front of the technical area.

“So that was about a moment so clear, a throw-in, but it was the second time,” Ten Hag said after the match. “I was on top of it and it was so clear and obvious our ball, it was my remark therefore I got booked.

“There is a certain point you have to accept decisions, what I should do as well,” he added.

Asked about his absence from the touchline at Goodison Park in two weeks’ time, Ten Hag said he has full confidence in his assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren. “We have a very competent coaching staff and they will take over. At a certain point I can be involved, but as I say, my coaching staff is very competent.”

United emerged with three points at Old Trafford despite putting in another lacklustre showing, with the hosts dominating possession but finding most of their chances came on the break or from crosses. It was via the latter that the Red Devils grabbed the only goal of the game, with Marcus Rashford’s ball into the box not cleared effectively by the Luton defence, which allowed Victor Lindelof the opportunity to sweep the ball past Thomas Kaminski.

“We could have made life more easy when we score goals but we create many chances,” claimed Ten Hag after the game. “First half, I observed four 100 percent chances, if you get the first you get the second and it becomes more easy.

"But if you don’t score, they can always drop a ball in the box and you are in trouble. So we had to fight to the end and it’s maybe not the prettiest, but we created many chances.”
