Erik ten Hag gives injury update on Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund after Man Utd win v Luton

Erik ten Hag has said he will need to wait 24 hours before knowing the extent of the injuries suffered by Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Luton Town.

The Danish internationals both had to be replaced during the encounter - Eriksen just before half-time and Hojlund in the 79th minute. The latter went down and seemed to be clutching the back of his leg, while Eriksen looked uncomfortable after an awkward slip in the first half.

Both are set to meet up with the Denmark squad after Saturday’s game, but Ten Hag said a clearer picture will emerge in the coming days, regarding the severity of both injuries.

“In this moment I can’t say anything about it because I don’t know,” the Dutchman replied, when asked about Hojlund’s substitution. “We do an assessment but have to wait for 24 hours to see what is the conclusion. Give them, the medical [team], 24 hours to see what is the problem, if there is a problem .

“You don’t want to lose any player and is the same for Christian Erisken, but this is also our season, so many injuries,” he added. “So therefore you have a squad. But we talk about it many times, the routine levels in your team, in the way of play. Hopefully the players coming back and the new injuries are not too bad.

Asked specifically about Eriken, Ten Hag said: “He slipped but it is the same. We have to do an assessment, set a diagnosis and then the conclusion. The we will know where we are.”

The win moves United - at least temporarily - into sixth place in the Premier League table, and despite the team's underwhelming performances, the team are just three points behind the Champions League spots.

"Even after all the setbacks we dealt with, we are still in a position near the top four," said Ten Hag.

"Now we our last won four of five games in the Premier League, which is good. We are in quite a good position if you see all the trouble we had, we are in a very good position. That is a reason to be optimistic, looking forward in the future and a step up in performances. We will move forward and get better performances and even more points."
