Erik ten Hag has revealed Marcus Rashford is a major doubt for Manchester United’s trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League this weekend.

The attacker missed last Saturday’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, but was back in training this week and was expected to be involved for the clash at the Vitality. However, asked for the latest on United’s no.10, Ten Hag revealed a new issue could force him to sit out the Bournemouth clash.

“Rashy, he trained the whole week but today [Friday] he reported he doesn’t feel well so he’s ill,” said the Dutchman. “We have to see how he recovers during the day and then see tomorrow.”

However, it’s better news regarding Scott McTominay and Raphael Varane, both of whom should be available on Saturday. McTominay has not played since the win over Everton at the beginning of April but was back in training this week, while Varane also returned last week against Wolves after a month-long break, but was replaced in the latter stages of the match.

“It’s positive on Varane, [he’s] definitely available,” Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conference. “Scott [is] joining in training, I think if the final training goes well he’ll be in [the squad].”

Tom Heaton is the third injured United player to return to training this week and should also be named in the group that travels to the south coast, although he will almost certainly be on the bench. Lisandro Martinez, Marcel Sabitzer and Donny van de Beek remain absent for the encounter and won’t play again this season.
