The Manchester United manager could have more defensive options for Tuesday's match.

Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Sergio Reguilon could be available for Manchester United when they take on Copenhagen on Tuesday in the Champions League.

The defender has not played since United's 1-0 win over Burnley on 23 September, and Ten Hag had said on Friday that Reguilon would be back for the weekend trip to Sheffield United.

Yet the Spaniard wasn't named in the matchday squad at Bramall Lane, with Victor Lindelof continuing at left-back in Reguilon's absence. Ten Hag revealed on Monday that the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur man missed out with an illness, but should be available for the Copenhagen match.

"We hope. We said it also last Friday, Sergio got ill for Saturday so he was fit and trained all last week," the ex-Ajax boss said in his pre-match press conference. "Yesterday he was a full part back in training.

"Today he will train and then we have to assess if he is fit or if he can be involved in the squad. We have to wait for that. We have to wait to see if he will be fit enough to be part of the squad tomorrow."

United head into Tuesday's match in need of three points after they were beaten in both of the opening group-stage matches against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray. It leaves the Red Devils bottom of the group and facing an uphill battle to progress to the last-16 of the competition.

It is set to be a poignant occasion at Old Trafford against Copenhagen, following the news on Saturday that Sir Bobby Charlton has sadly passed away. United will mark his passing by wearing black armbands, while Ten Hag held a minute's silence ahead of Monday's press conference.

"Bobby was a legend, a giant, not only for Manchester United but for football and so his legacy, what he left were the high standards we have to live every day," the United boss said, when asked about the 1968 European Cup winner. "First of all, our thoughts are with his family, wife, his children, his grandchildren but also what he meant for Manchester United, the standards he set. The last couple of days they were emphasised in the last couple of days."
