Man Utd player ratings vs Burnley - One 8/10 awarded but two 5/10 given in 1-0 win - gallery

Bruno Fernandes' incredible volley ensured Manchester United came away from Burnley with three points.

Manchester United earned a much-needed three points on Saturday night thanks to a 1-0 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

It was a game light on chances and quality, but Bruno Fernandes produced a moment of magic to ensure victory for the Red Devils, when his exquisite volley flew into the back of the net in the latter stages of the first half.

United had the first major chances of the game, with Marcus Rashford hitting the side netting from a narrow angle and Bruno Fernandes drawing a smart save from James Trafford. Meanwhile, Zeki Amdouni’s header was kept out by Andre Onana, before the Clarets’ winger hit the post at the end of a free-flowing move from the hosts.

It was a tight affair at Turf Moor with few clear-cut chances for either side. When the ball finally hit the back of the net it was from an unlikely source as Jonny Evans headed from a fantastic Sergio Reguilon corner in the 25th minute. However, Rasmus Hojlund, who was in an offside position, was deemed to have been interfering with Trafford and the goal was chalked off.

Burnley were the better side for most of the first half and Luca Koleosho dragged a shot wide from the edge of the area before Onana had to once again be on hand to keep out an Aaron Ramsey effort. Yet, despite United’s underwhelming half, the visitors took the lead in spectacular style on the stroke of half-time.

Evans, starting his first match for United since March 2015, sprayed a perfectly weighted long ball into the path of Fernandes and, inside the box, the Portugal international fired first time into the bottom corner. A goal-of-the season contender, for sure!

After the break, it was, surprisingly, an even less eventful 45 minutes than the previous half. Scott McTominay did see his shot on target comfortably held by Trafford, while Onana smothered a dangerous effort from Josh Cullen as the half went on.

In the latter stages, Sander Berge headed over from a corner, and Rashford saw his powerful strike blocked after a breakaway chance. As the game ticked towards the 90-minute mark, Benson Manuel tried to find a way back into the game, but fired high and wide from distance.

Fernandes went close with another volley in injury-time, this time while falling backwards, but Trafford made a sprawling save to keep out the ball. Benson had the last chance with the final kick of the game, but it was comfortably held by Onana. Here's how we rated the United players...
