'Don't think you can trust him' - Roy Keane delivers honest Man United verdict after 'boring' FA Cup display

Manchester United scraped their way into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Manchester United have had far from an easy run in their defending FA Cup campaign so far. The Red Devils inched their way past Leicester City on Friday after a controversial stoppage time goal from Harry Maguire.

United went 1-0 down to the Foxes in the first half and had to wait until after the hour mark for Joshua Zirkzee to find the equaliser. After fighting out a win on penalties against Arsenal, United looked set for another serving of extra time, before Maguire’s late header.

The defender appeared to be offside but with no VAR to intervene, the goal stood and United scraped their way into the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Ruben Amorim admitted it wasn’t a good performance from his side, and Roy Keane did not hesitate with heavy criticism for his former side.

Roy Keane slams Man United performance

“United got out of jail. Don't be fooled by it. You have to praise them - Manchester United are in the next round of the cup - but if they keep performing like that... the performance itself was nowhere near good enough,” Keane said during ITV’s coverage.

Speaking at half-time, the Old Trafford icon went in hard in United’s first half display: “It's shocking. Really, really poor. No shot on target. They had two on target against Crystal Palace. They're actually boring now.

“You're looking for urgency and energy. The goal sums up United. Giving it away cheaply, people not staying with their runners. From United's point of view, is this what it's come to? Nowhere near good enough. United aren't even doing the basics right. They're sloppy.”

FA Cup action will continue into next week, ending with Nottingham Forest’s visit to Exeter City on Tuesday. The draw for the fifth round will take place on Monday at 19.10 GMT on BBC One.

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Wolves are still to play on Sunday when they face Plymouth and Blackburn respectively. Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur will face off in the later kick-off, following by Crystal Palace’s visit to Doncaster on Monday.

Keane delivers honest verdict on Garnacho

Alejandro Garnacho has had a mixed bag of appearances for United this season, starting 13 Premier League games and coming off the bench for 10. With eight goals and six assists in all competitions, the 20-year-old has put in some key shifts but Keane isn’t sold on him as a starter under Amorim.

Garnacho came on for Patrick Dorgu after half-time and Keane praised his impact as a substitute. He believes the Argentinian is better suited to adding a fresh burst of energy into the game.

“I think it suits him when it comes off the bench, I don’t think you can trust him when he starts,” the 53-year-old said. “But when he comes off the bench and you’re gambling and the team is stretched, that’s when he comes into his own.

“They put Leicester on the backfoot and the subs came on. That’s what Garnacho does well. The first-half they were going sideways and sideways. He came on and tested them.”
