Dean Henderson is expected to leave Manchester United in the final week of the transfer window.

Dean Henderson is expected to leave Manchester United before the close of the transfer window, ManchesterWorld understands.

The goalkeeper is one of several players Ten Hag would like to move on before next Friday’s deadline, in order to generate funds for incoming players. Yet, Henderson’s departure may not significantly help in that regard, with the 26-year-old looking more likely to leave on loan rather than a permanent transfer.

Henderson had been close to sealing a switch to Nottingham Forest earlier this summer, but that deal stalled and the Midlands club instead turned their attention to Matt Turner. Despite that, sources have told ManchesterWorld that a return to the City Ground cannot be ruled out, although it looks more likely Henderson will end up elsewhere.

Crystal Palace are interested in signing the stopper and have been negotiating with United over a possible deal. A permanent move to Selhurst Park is unlikely at this stage, with a loan and obligation to buy seen as a more viable option for Palace.

A third Premier League side are also interested in Henderson, and Sheffield United are exploring the possibility of bringing him on loan to Bramall Lane for the 2023/24 campaign. Henderson spent two years with the Blades between 2018 and 2020 and helped the club gain promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign in Yorkshire, before returning on loan the following season and playing a starring role as Sheffield United finished ninth.

While none of the interested parties are particularly advanced in their negotiations, there’s confidence that a deal will happen in the next week or so, while United recognise the need for Henderson to play regular football at this stage of his career.

Should he depart, the Red Devils will bring in another back-up goalkeeper. Altay Bayindir is the man expected to replace Henderson at Old Trafford, and Ten Hag is believed to have approved the arrival of the Fenerbahce goalkeeper.

It comes following a busy transfer window in the goalkeeping department for United, with the long-serving David de Gea departing the club and being subsequently replaced by Andre Onana. Youngsters Nathan Bishop, Matej Kovar and Ondrej Mastny have also left United this summer.
