Manchester United were left frustrated over the weekend as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Newcastle United.

Erik ten Hag’s men managed just two shots on target from 15 efforts on goal, with the Magpies making life difficult for their hosts. The Red Devils are now three points behind the top four, though they do face third-place Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday with a chance to make up some ground.

United need to find consistency if they are going to secure Champions League football for next season, with competition rife at the top end of the table. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Old Trafford...

Simeone talks Ronaldo

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has ruled out a move for Cristiano Ronaldo. The forward was linked with the Spanish side during the summer window, a surprise rumour given Ronaldo’s legendary status at Real Madrid.

It seems there was little to those reports, however, and to clear things up ahead of the winter window, Atletico boss Simeone has said: “Cristiano Ronaldo’s possible arrival at Atletico in the summer? The little birds told you anything far from what happened. People speak sometimes to tell what they want to tell, not reality.”

Martinez issues

United are said to be facing a tough task if they hope to convince Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez to join the club. Martinez has impressed for Inter over recent years, most recently making headlines when he scored against Barcelona in the Champions League.

According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport, United are now eyeing a winter deal for the Argentine, but they face a problem in convincing the forward. That’s because, according to the report, United tried to sign Martinez two years ago, but they were rejected by the player, and the club haven’t exactly taken giant steps forward during that time.
