Manchester United vs Brentford: Chris Sutton and Harry Redknapp agree on exact outcome of Old Trafford clash

Manchester United will return to Premier League action at the weekend as they take on Brentford at Old Trafford - with Erik ten Hag’s position at the club currently under question, it is a massive game for the Red Devils.

Harry Redknapp and Chris Sutton have laid out their predictions for the game. They both acknowledged the gravity of the outing and how much it could mean come the end of the 2024/25 season.

In their last game, United played out a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa. It was an uneventful match, but the Red Devils could take solace in the fact that they managed to keep a clean sheet against dangerous opposition.

Brentford’s last outing was a stark contrast, as they beat Wolves by a score of 5-3. There were five different goal scorers on the Bees’ side, including Bryan Mbeumo, Ethan Pinnock and Fabio Carvalho.

In Redknapp’s official predictions, he forecast a 2-1 home win, as he said: “This is a huge game for Manchester United. The pressure around Erik ten Hag seems to have quietened at the minute but more dropped points here would be a disaster. With a trip to Turkey to face Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce looming, it’s going to be a big week for the club.

“Brentford are quietly having another decent season. They scored five in their win over Wolves and are always a threat. They win the games they should win and are always awkward when they face the top sides, this could be tricky for United, particularly if Brentford score in the first minute again! I think this will be a nervy one at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Sutton also predicted a 2-1 United win as he said [via BBC Sport]: “I was at this game last season and Brentford scored early, but Scott McTominay found the net twice in stoppage time to nick a win for Manchester United when they did not deserve anything from the game.

“This time? Well, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag needs a win, with his side 14th in the table and the joint-second lowest scorers with five goals from seven league games. Logic tells me that, while Brentford are yet to pick up an away point so far, they are the better team, and have been the better team all season.

“We also know the Bees still love an early goal, so they will probably take the lead again... but I just have a gut feeling that United will edge this one again, somehow. I can’t really tell you why, other than they have to, and also because Statman Dave said this would be 2-1 to Manchester United, so I am taking his advice. Hopefully he is better with his predictions than he is with his stats.”
