Manchester United have a big transfer window ahead of them as Sir Jim Ratcliffe looks to improve the club’s Premier League status. Despite finishing third last season, the Red Devils have struggled to recreate that form this time round as they are currently seventh in the table, 16 points adrift of the top four.

Fans will likely see a number of deals agreed this summer, both for new signings and potential outgoings as well. Following Ratcliffe’s takeover, it was reported that he was looking to restructure the squad and offload a number of players to start this new era at Old Trafford.

While some players are headed for the exit following their contract expirations, others could be sold on in order to raise transfer funds and free up space on the wage bill. United have been linked with a number of high profile players, who will likely cost a hefty amount of money. However, there are also some cost-effective options being linked to the Manchester club.

According to Claro Sports (via Sport Witness), Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumí has ‘captured the attention’ of United, as well as others ahead of the summer window. The Reds are currently in competition with Juventus and Atlético Madrid to sign the 25-year-old, who is under contract in Italy until 2026.

The report focuses on Atlético’s interest, as the club are looking to boost Diego Simeone’s defence. However, both United and Juve have also been mentioned and they could make ‘negotiations complicated’ for the La Liga side.

Atlético are reportedly ‘willing to negotiate’ with Bologna over an initial offer of €13 million (£11m), including add-ons. Its more than likely United will match and probably even better such an offer to potentially tip the scales in their direction but for now, the report says that the Reds are ‘keeping a close eye’ on Lucumí until the end of the season.
