Man United flop named heavy favourite to become manager of six-time Champions League winners

The former Red Devils coach has been linked with this soon-to-be vacant manager position.

Once the 2023/24 season closes, a number of managers will be moving around as they either join new clubs, call time on their current reigns, or prepare to be given the boot. In the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp will depart from Liverpool at the end of the term, while the future of the likes of Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino remain in a grey area beyond the summer.

A change of manager is part and parcel of the game, and former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is headed for the chopping block after just one season with Bayern Munich. There has been a lot of speculation over who will replace him as the club look to rectify their disappointing run this term. Bayern relinquished an 11-year winning streak to Bayer Leverkusen, who have stormed to their first ever Bundesliga title.

The Bavarians had made rival manager Xabi Alonso their top priority to succeed Tuchel, but amid interest from Liverpool as well, the ex-midfielder confirmed he will be staying with the Black and Reds next season.

As the end of the campaign approaches, Bayern are assessing other options and according to the latest bookmakers odds, Ralf Rangnick has been named as the leading favourite to take the job. The Austria national team boss is ahead of the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Roberto De Zerbi.

Rangnick has managed several clubs in his home of Germany, including Schalke and RB Leipzig. In 2021, he took his first job in England as Manchester United made him interim manager following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Despite a strong start to his time at Old Trafford, results started to dip and the Red Devils were dealt a teeth-gritting 4-0 defeat by Liverpool. Rangnick admitted he was not happy with United’s results during the season, as the club finished in sixth place with just 58 points, their worst total in Premier League history.

Despite his failed spell as United manager, Rangnick is being heavily linked to take over at Bayern as they look to get back to their usual dominant form. The Bavarians are the record holders of German league titles and boast an impressive six Champions League trophies as well.
