The Brazilian gave the ball away twice in the first-half which resulted in their opponents scoring two goals through winger Luis Diaz. He was then taken off at half-time by Erik ten Hag and was replaced by academy player Toby Collyer. Liverpool added a third goal in the second half to seal a 3-0 win with Alexis MacAllister robbing Kobbie Mainoo of possession before the ball was worked to Mohamed Salah to seal the win for the visitors.

Casemiro ended up staying at United beyond the deadline of the English transfer deadline last Friday. He still has another couple of years left on his contract at Old Trafford running until June 2026.

The 32-year-old was criticised for his performance against Liverpool and his wife has now stuck up for him on social media. He has been playing his football in England since 2022 and has made 86 appearances in all competitions to date, chipping in with 12 goals.

Prior to joining the Red Devils, the former Sao Paulo man spent 10 years at Real Madrid. He played 336 games for the La Liga giants and found the net on 31 occasions, as well as having a loan spell away at FC Porto.

Casemiro won the league title three times, as well as the Champions League five times. Since joining United, he has got his hands on the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

There were rumours that he left the stadium at the interval after being substituted. However, Ten Hag denied this: “That is not true. He was in the dressing room. I just met him."

Roy Keane slammed his former club’s showing against Liverpool and said on Sky Sports: “Same old problems, leopards and spots. They look very open when they've been, sometimes it's just one or two passes. They got away with the first couple of this alone.

“Obviously there has been mistakes. Mistake from Casemiro, for all his experience, that's not a first time pass. It's not worth the risk. And of course, when they lose it, they're all over the place. A player can make a mistake, but they've got to win it right back. They're all all over the place, and they've done this for the last couple of games.

“The mistake Casemiro makes for the first goal, he gives it away. I definitely think he should take a touch and with that situation, for all his experiences, awareness, he's got to do it quickly. He must be aware of what's around him, and then - in his defence - after this, United do get the defenders back and the players back for the second mistake. But that's the world class pass from Salah to finish, but Casemiro, for that incident there, he's got to do it quickly for the first goal, I think he's got to take a touch.”

United head into the international break with two losses in three games. They are back in action with an away trip to Southampton.
