Manchester United were left humiliated on Sunday as they were thrashed by their local rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

With Cristiano Ronaldo and Casemiro starting from the bench, Erling Haaland and his teammates ran riot on home turf as the Red Devils were beaten 6-3.

United had headed into the clash in positive spirits after winning four league matches in a row, however their poor performance in the derby saw many fans exit the away end by half-time.

With three Man City stars included in Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week, the BBC pundit has slammed United’s horror show.

Writing in his BBC Sport column, Crooks said: “The game was done and dusted within 45 minutes.

“Manchester United fans were leaving Etihad stadium in their droves. Why would you stick around and watch another half of Kevin de Bruyne, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden tearing your team to shreds?

“I can’t remember when I’ve seen a United side look so intimidated in the early exchanges of a Manchester derby.”

United’s defeat is their fourth in five meetings with City - making it 14 goals conceded and only four scored.

Despite their recent form, the Red Devils are all too familiar with derby defeats a losing 9-0 on aggregate to Liverpool across the 2021-22 season.

Erik ten Hag will be desperate to improve his side’s inconsistency if they are to claim a top four spot, with their upcoming run against the likes of Newcastle, Tottenham and Chelsea likely to have a big impact on the rest of the season.
