Manchester United could well sign Marcel Sabitzer permanently this season amid the midfielder’s successful loan spell so far. Sabitzer arrived at Old Trafford on a loan deal in January, joining from Bayern Munich to fill one of United’s midfield voids.

The Austrian has slotted in perfectly under Erik ten Hag, and there has been plenty of speculation over the possibility of a permanent deal being struck this season. The midfielder is unlikely to find a home back at Bayern, with the Bundesliga giants likely to strengthen significantly this summer amid a disappointing campaign by their standards.

According to Football Insider, there is ‘willingness from all parties’ to strike a deal this summer, meaning United are just as interested in snapping up the midfielder. And even Sabitzer himself has hinted that he would like to stick around at Old Trafford, giving a glowing review to BILD recently.

“The team’s will to win is enormous,” said the midfielder. “The mentality is extremely winning. I’ll tell you about three players: Our world champion Lisandro Martínez would die on the pitch. For him, winning is everything, he is a defender in every sense of the word. A brutal winner and leader.

“Bruno Fernandes is very important for the dressing room, hugely responsible. Marcus Rashford is the main attacker, a world-class striker. If he’s running, you can’t defend him.”

As things stand, the 29-year-old is under contract at Bayern until 2025, and Transfermarkt currently value him at £17.6million. It will be interesting to see whether United do indeed pull the trigger heading into this summer, and how much Bayern will charge.
