The latest injury news from both camps ahead of Aston Villa v Manchester United.

Aston Villa suffered a double injury blow in the midweek Champions League success against Bayern Munich, which could have a knock-on effect for Sunday’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The Villans recorded a famous 1-0 win thanks to Jon Duran’s audacious late strike, and the withdrawal of two players with knocks was somewhat overlooked in the post-match festivities.

Jacob Ramsey has struggled with injury problems over recent years and was replaced in the first half against Bayern with what appeared to be a groin issue. Leon Bailey was introduced in his place but lasted just 33 minutes before he was substituted himself, with the former Bayer Leverkusen man not looking up to speed following his recent injury issues.

There was further disappointment for Villa in the second half when Amadou Onana had to come off after an hour. The Belgian, who United tried to sign last summer, has started all nine matches for Villa this season but has completed the full 90 just three times.

Ross Barkley - another player who attracted interest from United during the window - replaced him and could be an option for Sunday’s game at Villa Park, while Tyrone Mings, Boubacar Kamara and John McGinn will definitely miss out through injury.

As for United, Mason Mount is a doubt for this weekend’s Premier League clash following the head injury he sustained in the 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur las week. Long-term absentees Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Tyrell Malacia are also unavailable, but there was better news on Wednesday with Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo named in the United squad that flew to Portugal for the Europa League encounter with Porto.

Bruno Fernandes is available for the trip to Villa despite being sent off last week against Spurs. The FA decided to rescind the player’s dismissal, meaning he can also feature against Brentford and West Ham United after the international break.
