The Manchester United winger said he hopes to build on Sunday's goal-scoring display.

Manchester United winger Antony has said he will ‘close himself off’ in an effort to improve his form for the club, while appearing to distance himself from reports of a possible transfer in the summer.

The Evening Standard last week reported that United have offered Antony to clubs in Saudi Arabia with the 23-year-old struggling to make a real impact since his arrival from Ajax. Antony registered a goal and an assist as the Red Devils beat Newport County 4-2 in the FA Cup on Sunday, the player’s first goal contributions in 23 appearances this season.

It’s been a hugely frustrating campaign for the team and for Antony personally, with Erik ten Hag claiming earlier this month that his form has failed to recover since allegations of domestic violence were levelled against the Brazilian from his former girlfriend. Antony has always denied the accusations, which resulted in him missing five games in September due to a period of absence.

But speaking after the win over Newport, the forward revealed he is hoping for an improved second half of the campaign and said he wants to ‘build his story’ at Old Trafford, perhaps in response to last week’s reports of a summer exit.

"The whole club, every fan, deserves the best from each one of us," said Antony, as per the club’s website. "United is one of the main clubs in the world, where everyone wants to be, and it's where I want to build my story.

“I fought hard to reach the levels of playing for this club. I know I can build on yesterday’s performance and continue to show my qualities.

"I pushed myself day after day for better performances. I will continue to completely close myself off to improve and play the football that Manchester United hired me to do.”
