Manchester United suffered a major injury blow on Thursday, just nine days before the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Brazilian international Antony picked up what appeared to be a serious injury in the first half of United’s Premier League match against Chelsea, the Red Devils’ penultimate Premier League match of the campaign.

Antony was on the receiving end of a strong challenge from Trevoh Chalobah, although the Chelsea defender did win the ball. Yet the impact left Antony writhing in agony and he immediately signalled to the bench that he couldn’t continue, while also banged the turf repeatedly  in frustration.

A stretcher was immediately called for and the winger was carried down the tunnel to a standing ovation from the United fans.

But it’s a huge concern ahead of the FA Cup final on 3 June, and Antony’s involvement has to be a major doubt for the Red Devils.

It could be a fourth injury for the clash with United’s local rivals, and Lisandro Martinez, Donny van de Beek and Marcel Sabitzer have been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with long-term problems.

As for City, they have picked up several new injuries this week. Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias, Manuel Ajanki and Jack Grealish missed the midweek draw with Brighton & Hove Albion due to knocks, while John Stones and Phil Foden picked had to be replaced with minor issues. However, Laporte and Foden were seen in training on Thursday, alleviating some of those worries, while Nathan Ake is also struggling with a hamstring problem.
