Manchester United striker Anthony Martial continues to be at the centre of speculation linking him with a possible January exit.

The 26-year-old is understood to be keen on securing more first-team football elsewhere after enduring a frustrating start to the season, with several clubs mentioned in relation to a potential swoop in the coming weeks.

We’ve gathered all of the latest information you need to know about Martial’s ongoing situation, and where he could end up if he does depart next month...

What do we know so far?

The situation appears to be fairly straightforward. Widespread reports have suggested that Martial has grown dissatisfied with a lack of minutes, and after slipping down the pecking order at Old Trafford, could be allowed to leave the club in January.

The Frenchman has been at United since 2015, when he arrived from Monaco in a deal worth around £54million, but he has endured a tough 2021/22 campaign and has started just four games in all competitions, playing 90 minutes once in a League Cup encounter against West Ham United back in September.

His season has also been impacted by injury and competition from the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Mason Greenwood in wide areas, while Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo have been preferred up front.

The details of Martial’s potential exit have proven to be slightly more complex, however.

A recent report from Eurosport suggests that United value the player at around £40million, but a number of updates have seemingly linked him with an initial loan exit in the January transfer window.

To complicate matters further, despite a long list of touted suitors, ESPN assert that United are “yet to receive a serious enquiry” for the 26-year-old, and are unwilling to accept a cut-price fee for a permanent deal or pay a majority of his wages in any loan agreement.

What has Martial said?

Martial himself hasn’t openly spoken about his future at Old Trafford, but his agent, Philippe Lamboley has made it clear that his client is interested in seeking a fresh challenge elsewhere.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “Anthony wishes to leave the club in January. He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon.”

When does Martial’s contract expire?

The Frenchman’s current contract is set to run until the summer of 2024, with the option for a further year written into the deal.

Martial last penned an extension at Old Trafford in January 2019.

Who is interested in him?

A number of high-profile clubs are said to be monitoring Martial’s situation. In the Premier League, relegation-threatened Newcastle United have been linked, as have West Ham.

As perMarca, the Magpies seem particularly interested, and are willing to shell out a seven-figure loan fee to secure his services, as well as including a clause in any potential deal that would see him offered a long-term permanent contract if the Toon Army are able to beat the drop this term.

But there also appears to be considerable interest from abroad too, with Sky Sports reporting that Sevilla, Barcelona, and Juventus are all keen.

Of that trio, Martial is said to be most keen on a move to Sevilla, where he believes he could be guaranteed the most game time.
