Alejandro Garnacho makes gesture to Man Utd teammates as informal punishment for what he did vs Ipswich
Man Utd forward Alejandro Garnacho was not happy with his withdrawal against Ipswich in midweek.
Ruben Amorim says Alejandro Garnacho will ‘buy dinner for the entire Manchester United’ team as an informal punishment after he did not watch the second-half of their midweek victory over Ipswich from the bench.
The Argentine winger was substituted in the wake of Patrick Dorgu’s red card on Wednesday night and cut a frustrated figure as he headed straight down the tunnel to change his shirt. Garnacho did not emerge for the second-half and it has been confirmed he watched the rest of the match away from his teammates.
Garnacho had only just been recalled to the starting line up after he featured from the bench against Everton last weekend and appeared to be visibly frustrated when he was taken off, having started the game well. Amorim’s tactical change worked well, though, as United rallied in the second-half to win the match despite their man disadvantage.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash with Fulham in the FA Cup, Amorim confirmed Garnacho would be available for selection after his reaction to being substituted in midweek.
“He came to me, it was funny because the next day he came to my office, I did some investigations, he went to the dressing room, change his clothes because he was wet, he watched the game, not in the bench and at the end of the game he was there and went home. So not an issue. But at a big club like Manchester United, everything is important and perception is important. He is going to pay a dinner to all the team and that is it.”
Asked if Garnacho was available to face Fulham this weekend, he added: “Yes, he has a knock, when he went to shoot was blocked inside the box, I expect for him to be ready but we will see. I think he understands, they read everything, all the small things. I know the players quite well, I understand they are frustrated. He was subbed, he was playing well. I am just trying to help them to be better players.”
