One of Erik ten Hag’s first jobs as the new Manchester United is to assess which current players he wants to keep and who should move on.
That’s no small task, with the club website listing 40 players in their current first-team squad. While some of those are fringe and youth-team players, it still emphasises how big United’s pool of players is.
Given how disappointing this campaign has been for the Red Devils, there are expected to be plenty of outgoings at Old Trafford, in addition to those who Ten Hag will want to bring into the club.
But who will leave and who will remain at United for the 2022/23 campaign? We’ve cast our eyes over 35 of the squad’s most established players and assessed how likely they are to depart this summer.

1. David de Gea - Possible
Has been one of United’s best players this season, but Ten Hag may want to bring in a goalkeeper who excels with the ball at his feet.

2. Dean Henderson- Likely
Not expected to hold down a starting position and therefore should depart.

3. Tom Heaton - Unlikely
The ex-Burnley stopper is established as the Red Devils’ third-choice goalkeeper, so a lack of game-time won’t impact him.

4. Lee Grant- Very likely
With his contract expiring, Grant’s spell at United is not likely to last beyond the summer.
