One of Erik ten Hag’s first jobs as the new Manchester United is to assess which current players he wants to keep and who should move on.
That’s no small task, with the club website listing 40 players in their current first-team squad. While some of those are fringe and youth-team players, it still emphasises how big United’s pool of players is.
Given how disappointing this campaign has been for the Red Devils, there are expected to be plenty of outgoings at Old Trafford, in addition to those who Ten Hag will want to bring into the club.
But who will leave and who will remain at United for the 2022/23 campaign? We’ve cast our eyes over 35 of the squad’s most established players and assessed how likely they are to depart this summer.

5. Victor Lindelof - Unlikely
Is one of the better defenders in this squad and should remain, although Ten Hag signing a new centre-back could change that.

6. Eric Bailly - Likely
Looks destined to leave the club given a lack of game-time over recent years. Finding a buyer who will match his wages could be another matter, however.

7. Phil Jones - Very likely
Enters the final year of his contract this summer and may look to move on after 11 seasons at Old Trafford. Jones was linked with a January transfer that fell through.

8. Harry Maguire - Unlikely
Despite his poor season, Maguire is a good defender who Ten Hag will look to get the most out of next season.
