9. Garry Birtles
A Nottingham Forest favourite who did not enjoy as much success at Old Trafford. Cost £1.25million back in 1980 which didn’t seem like bad business until it took him nearly a full 12 months to break his duck in front of goal. Went back to the City Ground for £300,000.

10. Wout Weghorst
A loan signing from Burnley that almost summed up United’s struggles and iffy recruitment in recent seasons. One League Cup goal for the Dutch international who is now on loan at Hoffenheim in Germany. | Getty
11. Kleberson
Came as an established Brazil international but made just 20 league appearances across two seasons between 2003 and 2005 after being injured in his second game.
