It’s been a bit of a tumultous week at Old Trafford to say the least. Hot on the heels of Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure ‘by mutual agreement’, Manchester United’s owners, the Glazers, confirmed they are potentially willing to sell the club which they have owned since 2005.

The American bosses confirmed on Tuesday night they were looking to ‘explore strategic alternatives’ in the foreseeable future, after years of protest from supporters about their ownership and how the club is being run.

Speculation has mounted over who might want to step into the frame and take over at United, with names being touted continually from mega-rich businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe (the UK’s richest man) to American multi-national company Apple. Whoever steps forward will need deep pockets - and supporters may favour a United fan who seems to care about the club and not just see it as a business opportunity.
