The Dutchman has been a regular for PSV Eindhoven since being promoted to their first team in the 2018-19 season, making 116 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals and assisting his teammates on 39 occasions.

His performances for the Dutch club are set to lead to him signing a new deal with PSV as per The Mirror.

However, according to Voetbal International, City have ‘held talks’ with the 22-year-old about a potential move, as have English top-flight rivals Liverpool, but Gakpo is yet to decide his immediate future.

"The clubs that want something are also known to me, I’ve had conversations about that with my agent," he said, while stressing it "looks like" he will extend his current deal in Eindhoven.

"Very interesting clubs have been added, but we have to look at what the first step is. At the moment my focus is not there and I had better things to do on Sunday."

Who is Cody Gakpo?

Born in Eindhoven on 7 May 1999, Gakpo is a Netherlands international with four caps to his name.

The 22-year-old has spent his senior career playing for PSV after coming through their youth ranks and made his first team debut on 26 September 2018.

Though part of the Dutch national team, he was also eligible to play for Togo due to his father being born there.

Current form

According to whoscored.com, Gakpo is performing at an overall average of 7.70 for club and country. He has scored goals (10) and registered more assists (10) than Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Gabriel Jesus and Bernardo Silva this season - stats that should excite the Sky Blues faithful.

Though predominantly a left winger, who likes to cut inside on his right foot, Gakpo can also play on the right and up top.

How likely is the deal to go ahead?

With interest from City, Liverpool and Bayern Munich, all teams who are considered among Europe’s elite, if one of those clubs were to bid for the 22-year-old, it would be hard for him to turn it down.
