Once again, late goals cost Manchester City at the Etihad in another uncharacteristically weak finish.

Bernardo Silva slammed Manchester City’s timid finish against Manchester United on Sunday and said the Premier League champions’ naive approach was reminiscent of an Under-15s side.

City had led 1-0 going into the 88th minute of the derby yet conceded two goals in two crazy minutes to extend their woeful run to eight defeats in 11 matches. Again, individual errors were at the heart of the frantic end, with Matheus Nunes at fault for the first goal and then Ederson flew off his line for the second.

There were similarities with the finish against United and the three-goal lead City threw away late on against Feyenoord last month, another worrying habit the team have developed. For that reason, Silva was critical of the side after another collapse on Sunday.

“We totally deserved what happened because at this level, if it’s a game or two, you can say they are being lucky or unlucky. After 10 games, it’s not about that,” the Portugal international told Sky Sports after the 2-1 defeat.

“If minute 87 of a derby you're winning 1-0, corner for your team, and the ball ends with your keeper for a penalty for them, my friend, if you make these stupid decisions when it's three or four minutes to go, you deserve to pay for that.

“If you look at the game, my feeling was there was only one team that could win the game but at the end we lost and it’s not one game, it’s a lot of games lately. We have to look at ourselves.

“It’s not ‘we’re playing so well and it’s unlucky’. No, it’s the decisions that you make. Today, in the last minutes we played like an Under-15s and you pay the price.”

The defeat leaves City nine points off leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand. Next up for the Blues is a trip to Aston Villa, after a rare - and much-needed - midweek off.
