The report claims Maddison, who last played in 4-1 loss to Chelsea on 6 November, is set to return to training on Monday when the squad reconvene after the mid-season winter break. The ex-Leicester City midfielder was one of the Premier League’s standout players in the first months of the campaign, and the team’s form immediately dropped following his injury.

As for Solomon, he has been out since September due to a knee injury sustained in training, The 24-year-old, like Maddison, joined Spurs over the summer, signing on a free from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The return of the duo would be a huge boost for manager Ange Postecoglou, who was without 10 players for last week’s 2-2 draw at Manchester United. Heung-min Son is perhaps the biggest absence, with the forward representing South Korea at the Asian Cup.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr are also on international duty, at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Ben Davies, Giovani Lo Celso, Ivan Perisic, Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett also missed the trip to Old Trafford through injury.

As for City, they could be without Manuel Akanji, John Stones and Erling Haaland, with the trio sitting out the 3-2 Premier League win against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola, who has lost on all five previous visits to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, will give an update on his squad during next week’s pre-match press conference. The club flew out to Abu Dhabi on Thursday, and it’s hoped Haaland will be involved in some of the warm-weather sessions.
