Raheem Sterling is set to resume contract talks with Manchester City, according to reports.

The England international’s current deal expires in 2023 and Sterling was linked with a move away from the Etihad earlier this season.

Comments in October from the former Liverpool man only increased that speculation with Sterling claiming he ‘would be open’ to a move abroad one day.

However, Sterling’s form has markedly improved since then and he was voted the Premier League’s Player of the Month for December, after he netted five goals and registered one assist last month.

He also scored his 100th Premier League goal during that run, when his penalty proved to be the only goal of the game as City beat Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Overall this season, the 27-year-old has scored nine times and delivered three assists from 27 appearances.

Therefore, it’s no surprise City are keen to extend Sterling’s contract, and ESPN claim the Premier League champions want to sort the situation before July, when he would enter the final year of his contract.

ESPN report City are relaxed about the situation despite interest from Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, although they add Sterling was considering a January loan earlier this season when he was struggling to find regular minutes in the team.

City are next in action on Saturday when they host Fulham in the FA Cup fourth round, before Brentford make the journey to the Etihad four days later in the league.

The Blues currently have a nine-point gap over second-place Liverpool, although Jurgen Klopp’s men do have a game in hand on City.
