Kevin De Bruyne lasted just 23 minutes of Manchester City's win against Burnley.

Kevin De Bruyne is set for an extended period on the sidelines after limping out of Burnley’s win against Manchester City.

The City skipper went off after just 23 minutes at Turf Moor and boss Pep Guardiola revealed it was the same hamstring issue that saw him hobble off in the Champions League final.

Speaking after the 3-0 win to open the new Premier League season, he said: “It’s his hamstring again. It’s the same position again and, I don’t know, it depends on the magnitude of the injury, but he will be out for a few weeks.”

Asked if he had potentially been rushed back, the City boss added: “Maybe it was my mistake but when it’s an injury after 15 or 20 minutes then there’s something wrong.

“If it happens after 65 there’s fatigue of the muscle you can read that but in 10 or 15 minutes there’s something wrong.

“He’s down because he fought a lot. He had to come off in the final of the Champions League and he felt really good. I spoke with him, he told me ‘I feel perfect, I prefer to start’ and making 45 or 50 minutes was the idea so of course he’s disappointed but he’s strong and he will be back.”

Kyle Walker went off late on after the red card challenge form Burnley’s Anass Zaroury but Guardiola said he had been told it was simply a “kick” and was not twisted and the full back would be okay.

Ruben Dias also missed the game with a concussion while central defensive partner John Stones has an abductor issue - although Guardiola expects both defenders to be back sooner rather than later.

“Ruben was a concussion,” the City boss said. “We were scared with something that happened in a training session and the protocol is seven days off.

“And John felt with one pass something in the abductor and the doctor tells me that it feels really good today. It will not be long. I don’t know for Sevilla but maybe Newcastle.”
