Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed the team news ahead of Sunday’s trip to Wolves in the Premier League.

And the City boss has confirmed that Nathan Ake is unlikely to start, while the game is likely to come too soon also for Kevin De Bruyne. The 33-year-old was in a similar boat to Ake and was expected back after the international break. However, as reported by Sky Sports’ Ben Ransom, De Bruyne didn’t take part in Thursday’s session.

It was hoped Ake would be available for the first time since he picked up a hamstring injury while representing the Netherlands in September. The defender returned late to pre-season following his involvement at Euro 2024 and played just two minutes in the league before sustaining the knock last month, which resulted in him missing all seven games between the September and October international break.

Speaking on Friday lunchtime, Guardiola said: “I don’t think so. No. Not ready. They are training and in the last part and yesterday Nathan did his first training with the team. Maybe can travel but to start is not ready.”

On Wolves, Guardiola added: “They got less points than they deserve, it’s what I can see. Always have been tough with Wolves since Nuno Espirito Santo was the manager.  All the time they have been exceptional.”
