Katongo was part of City’s squad that travelled to America this summer but has not played for the club since the season began, prompting his return to Peterborough.
The 19-year-old impressed at the Posh last season as they made it to the League One play-offs and won the EFL Trophy. Katongo played 43 times for the club, and tended to operate at right-back.

However, the midfielder’s time in Cambridgeshire had to be cut short after he suffered a long-term injury having made just one appearance for the club. Manager Darren Ferguson said he could bring the Spaniard back in January.
As for Katongo, he might feature for Peterborough when they take on Wrexham on Saturday.
"I am buzzing to be back. I really loved my time at the club last season so when the opportunity came to return, it was something I was really excited about,” he told the club’s website.
"I have had a good time with Manchester City in the summer in terms of the pre-season tour, but now I am focussed on getting game time and I am looking forward to seeing all of the lads again."
