Manchester City’s travelling squad has been named for this summer’s tour of the USA.
With the majority of the first-team group missing, even the most passionate of City supporters can be forgiven for knowing only a handful of names in the 27-man roster.
Jack Grealish, Erling Haalaand and Ederson are the most high-profile additions, while Stefan Ortega, Rico Lewis, Kalvin Phillips and Oscar Bobb all played for Pep Guardiola’s first team last season. Scott Carson, Joshua Wilson-Esbrand, James McAtee and Maximo Perrone are also deemed first-team players, but are very much on the periphery.
Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic are set to meet up with the group at a later date, but 14 players who were at Euro 2024 or the Copa America won’t play any part in America. It means several youngsters are likely to be given the opportunity to play in friendlies against Celtic, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea.
That could be an intriguing prospect given the plethora of talent City have in their youth ranks and they are regular winners at Under-21 and Under-18 levels, with the latter winning the FA Youth Cup last season.
But which youngsters could be the breakthrough stars this summer and even possibly force their way into Guardiola’s plans?

1. Jahmai Simpson-Pusey
The captain of City's Youth Cup-winning team and a commanding defender who is adept at playing out from the back. With none of the club's senior centre-backs travelling to the US, the 18-year-old could get a lot of game time.

2. Mahamadou Susoho
With City in need of cover for Rodri, Susoho could provide the long-term solution. The Spaniard played once for the first team last season and was named on the bench 10 times, so is already used to being around Guardiola's squad.

3. Maximo Perrone
Another midfielder, the youngster spent last season on loan at Las Palmas but is considered a first-teamer. Since signing in January 2023 the Argentinian hasn't had a real opportunity to impress, so will be desperate to prove his worth in America.

4. Justin Oboavwoduo
A rapid, offensive wide player, the 17-year-old is among the younger members of the squad. Oboavwoduo scored twice en route to City winning the Youth Cup and, even with Grealish and Bobb in the squad, could be given an opportunity to impress.
