Manchester City confirmed their most experienced squad member will remain at the club for another year.

Manchester City have confirmed Scott Carson has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until 2025.

That will mean Carson's enduring career will extend into a 22nd season, with the goalkeeper making his senior debut for Leeds United in 2004. The 38-year-old is third-choice stopper in Pep Guardiola’s squad behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega and, although he hasn’t made an appearance this season, has been on the bench 28 times.

He last played for City in a Champions League dead rubber against Sporting Lisbon in 2022, but is a popular member of Guardiola’s squad. This is the third summer in a row Carson has penned a one-year extension, and he had been the only senior City player approaching the transfer window whose contract was due to expire.

“I’m looking forward to another season as part of this incredible squad at City,” the experienced goalkeeper told the club’s website

“Every day I work hard and learn something new from Pep, [goalkeeping coach] Xabi Mancisidor and the world class group of players. Hopefully I can continue to help our goalkeepers perform at their best as we challenge for even more trophies.”

Carson has represented Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton Athletic, Aston Villa West Bromwich Albion, Bursaspor, Wigan Athletic, Derby County and City in his career, and earned four England caps.

“Scott has been important to our successes over recent seasons, supporting his team-mates and training hard as part of our excellent goalkeeping unit,” said director of football, Txiki Begiristain.

“We’re very pleased he has agreed to extend his contract. Hopefully he can help the squad and be ready when called upon on the pitch in the 2024/25 season.”
