Man City set to confirm two transfers ‘imminently’ as ‘£50m’ price tag slapped on Chelsea target

Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega could be unveiled as Manchester City players soon, with Nathan Ake looking less likely to leave the club.

Manchester City’s 2022/23 squad is starting to take shape ahead of the new season.

Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez have been confirmed as new recruits, while we’re expecting two more transfers to be announced in the next week.

Marc Cucurella is the only outstanding incoming transfer that looks uncertain, with City potentially having to sell before they can bring in the Brighton & Hove Albion left-back.

In terms of outgoings, Gabriel Jesus’s arrival at Arsenal seems set to be wrapped up soon, as Raheem Sterling’s future is still uncertain.

However, there’s more positive news regarding another Chelsea target in Manchester, who is unlikely to be sold on the cheap.

Here’s the latest transfer round-up surrounding City…

Phillips finalising move

Kalvin Phillips will complete his much-anticipated switch to City ‘this week’, according to the Daily Mail.

The midfielder is expected to join from Leeds United for a fee of around £45m and will complete his medical with the club on Friday.

The outlet add Aston Villa and Newcastle United were interested in Phillips, while Leeds rejected a £55m offer from West Ham United in January.

City’s Ake valuation

The Manchester Evening News report City would not allow Nathan Ake to depart the club this summer ‘without having a replacement lined up’.

The defender has been linked with a return to his former club Chelsea, and the Telegraph report he remains ‘the most likely’ target to replace Antonio Rudiger following the German’s move to Real Madrid.

But the MEN add it would take a fee north of £50m to sign Ake given he has three years remaining on his current contract at the Etihad.

Goalkeeper switch

As per the Sun, Stefan Ortega could join City soon after he visited the club’s training ground this week.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper will sign for the Premier League champions on a free transfer after his contract with Arminia Bielefeld expired on Thursday.

The Sun also report Ortega’s arrival will result in current City stopper Zack Steffen joining Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.

The American is said to be keen on a move to the Championship club in order to earn more minutes ahead of the World Cup.
