The Manchester City forward came off with an injury on Saturday.

Manchester City host Young Boys in their fourth Champions League group-stage game of the season and need just two points from the final three matches to secure their passage to the knockout stages.

A 3-1 win two weeks ago in Bern ensured City maintained their 100 record in the competition this season, with Manuel Akanji on target before Erling Haaland netted a brace. But the Norwegian no.9 is a major fitness doubt for the return meeting at the Etihad on Tuesday.

Haaland was seen limping at the end of the first half of Saturday’s 6-1 victory over Bournemouth, and was replaced at the break by Phill Foden. Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola said he was not sure if the ex-Borussia Dortmund man would be back in time for the clash with Young Boys.

“Twist with the ankle. I didn’t speak with the doctors. We will see in the next days how it develops,” said the City manager on Saturday. Speaking separately to the BBC’s Match of the Day, Guardiola added: “We didn't want to take risks with him, he didn't feel comfortable. He'll be back maybe Tuesday but maybe next Sunday.”

It’s unlikely Haaland will be rushed back for the midweek Champions League encounter, with Julian Alvarez expected to take his place in the centre-forward role. Haaland is the only fitness doubt ahead of Tuesday’s game, although Kevin De Bruyne is a long-term absentee.

The midfielder gave an update last week on his recuperation from a hamstring operation and said he has not put a timeframe on his return to the team. "It's actually going very well. A control scan will follow next week," he said. "Then we know how the injury evolves. In the end everything goes according to schedule. I was not given a time when I could play football again.”
