Kalvin Phillips is close to joining West Ham United on loan, ManchesterWorld understands.

The Manchester City midfielder has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs this month and Newcastle United and Crystal Palace were leading the race for his signature last week.

But West Ham pushed at the end of the week and their willingness to pay a loan fee has seen them get an agreement across the line. Phillips has all but said yes to joining the Hammers and will complete a medical when he returns from City’s mid-season training camp in Abu Dhabi.

The Blues fly back on Tuesday with the England international then expected to travel to London, although there is no major rush from a West Ham perspective for the deal to be completed given they aren’t in action this weekend.

Phillips has struggled for game time since his move to City in 2022 and has started just two Premier League matches in that period. The 28-year-old has made only 10 appearances in all competitions this season, with two starts.

The ex-Leeds United man admitted in October that he may have to move on in January with Phillips aware that he needs to play regular football to hold down a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.

However, he will face stiff competition for places at West Ham with James Ward-Prowse and Edson Alvarez arriving last summer, while Tomas Soucek has been a regular under David Moyes.

Should Phillips complete his loan move to the London Stadium, he could be involved in West Ham’s next match game on 1 February against Bournemouth, before a trip to Old Trafford three days later.
