Jack Grealish missed Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United on Sunday due to a slight injury.

The England international picked up a knock during last week’s win over Bournemouth and failed to recover in time for the trip to the North-East.

However, it is not believed to be a long-term injury and Grealish should recover soon, perhaps in time for the midweek friendly against Barcelona, or the home clash with Crystal Palace next week.

“He had an incredible blow in the last game against Bournemouth in the last minutes,” Pep Guardiola told Sky Sports ahead of the clash with Newcastle. “We're lucky it was just a little, little, little damage to his ligament, but not much. He feels better, but not ready for today.”

The knock means the former Aston Villa captain wasn’t part of City’s matchday squad, although new signing Sergio Gomez was included among the substitutes.

“I don't think he's ready for 90 minutes but he trained really well, he's a smart guy with the ball,” Guardiola told Sky. “With the problems we have with Jack and some players, we have space for him.”

Gomez was joined on the bench by Ruben Dias, who has been rotated out of the side, while Kalvin Phillips and Cole Palmer were named among the nine substitutes after missing the Bournemouth game.

City started with Ederson in nets at St James’ Park, while it was a back four of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Nathan Ake and Joao Cancelo.

Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne made up the midfield three, with Bernanrdo Silva, Phil Foden and Erling Haaland selected up front.
