Jurgen Klopp has given an injury update on Liverpool defenders Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The champions head to the league leaders in what is set to be a pivotal game in the title race at Anfield, with Liverpool currently one point clear at the top of the table.

But the Reds have been blighted by significant injuries in recent weeks, with 10 players missing Wednesday’s opening training session, including the likes of Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago and Diogo Jota.

Those concerns were heightened on Thursday night when Konate and Gomez were withdrawn early in the Europa League win over Sparta Prague. Konate’s issue looked more serious with the Frenchman hobbling off in the second half to be replaced by Virgil van Dijk.

As for Gomez, Conor Bradley was substituted on for the versatile defender at half-time. But speaking after the game, Klopp revealed neither player is a massive concern and should be fit to play on Sunday.

“Ibou said to me 'if I do another sprint, it could be set',” explained the Liverpool manager. “Should be fine but we don't know.”

Asked about Gomez, Klopp replied: “[He] is fine, played a lot, rotation.”

As for City, they’re expected to be without Jeremy Doku for the clash at Anfield. The winger missed Wednesday’s Champions League win over Copenhagen due to a minor knock and could be back for this weekend. However, Jack Grealish has been ruled out for the remainder of the month with a groin issue.
