Manchester City legend and all-time leading goalscorer Sergio Aguero has opened the door for a shock return to club football, in a move which could see him link up with a former team mate from his playing days at the Etihad.

That’s according to reports in Argentina, which suggest that Aguero is considering a return to football, despite previously retiring from the game due to heart problems in 2021.

Mundo Deportivo reveals that a viral talk with Aguero’s cardiologist hinted at a possible return to the field for the 101 time Argentina international.

His cardiologist told Aguero: “The way things are going so far, you won't have any problem playing at some point. Logically we have to do the tests and make you run as if it were a game. And it's true, when you have the two central defenders... you have to make a fake or something like that, you have to be well prepared.

“So I would say... get ready, there is some hope. We can say that you're doing very well and that you have to get in good enough shape to be there for a few minutes. But I see you looking good, you're doing everything and you didn't have anything [problem].

“We're going to monitor you a little bit more. In short... It's possible, yes it's possible. You are doing very well.” Aguero went on to share the message on his TikTok page in an encouraging message to fans.

Which club could Sergio Aguero join?

Sergio Aguero’s potential return to football has prompted rumours of a reunion with his former club and international team mate Carlos Tevez, who is now the manager of Argentinian side Independiente.

Tevez and Aguero notably formed part of the team which lifted the first of Manchester City’s nine league titles back in the 2011/2012 campaign. Aguero was the standout player for City that season - scoring 23 league goals, including the decisive strike against QPR on the final day. Tevez spent the majority of that season away from the first team due to a fall out with Roberto Mancini, but returned late in the campaign to grab a crucial hat-trick against Norwich, in a game where he also assisted Aguero.

Aguero started his club career at Independiente in 2003 and has previously claimed that he would like to end his career with the club that it all started at 21 years ago.
