Anthony Martial was once regarded as one of the hottest prospects in world football, but could now leave Man Utd for free in the summer.

Manchester United striker Anthony Martial is expected to leave Old Trafford on a free in the summer and it is also reported that the forward may have already played his last game for the club.

Football Insider claims United's board of directors have decided to let the 28-year-old leave on a free at the end of the season, having reportedly opted not to trigger a one-year extension which is included in the Frenchman’s deal.

Martial arrived at United from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015. The fee of £36m made him the most expensive teenager in world football at the time - surpassing the £27m that had been paid for Luke Shaw a year earlier.

The French forward was initially seen as one for the future and showed signs of immense promise in England - scoring 11 goals from 31 appearances in his debut campaign. He also fired in an impressive 17 goals from 32 appearances in the 2019/20 campaign, but has since experienced a huge fall from grace and has struggled for consistency and regular game time.

Now in his ninth year at Old Trafford, it is reported that Martial is earning a figure of around £250,000 a week after penning a new five year deal in the summer of 2019.

The forward has been a peripheral figure under Erik ten Hag and has made just 19 appearances in all competitions this term, including just seven starts. In this time he has managed to score just two goals.

He has been absent for the club’s last nine Premier League games with illness and a subsequent groin injury and is unlikely to feature in the club’s final 12 league games, according to Football Insider.

Across 317 appearances in all competitions for the club, he has scored 90 goals and provided 55 assists.
