The January transfer window is open and Manchester City are facing their sixth under manager Pep Guardiola.

The Catalan has been tasked with bringing a seventh Premier League title to the Etihad Stadium this season, having previously guided them to three.

Guardiola doesn’t usually dip his toe into the market during the winter window, with his last January signing being Aymeric Laporte in 2018.

However, he could be tempted to reinforce his squad this year with several names being linked with a move to City.

With that being said, let’s take a look at who the bookmakers think are the top candidates to make a switch to the Premier League champions this month.

Dusan Vlahovic - 8/1

According to reports, the Sky Blues are one of a number of clubs looking at signing Serbian forward Duas Vlahovic this month.

The 21-year-old has been in fine form for Fiorentina this campaign, netting an impressive 18 goals in 22 appearances so far.

City don’t currently have an out-and-out striker in their ranks due to Gabriel Jesus now being utilised as a winger, so bringing Vlahovic to the Etihad would make sense.

The Sky Blues face competition from fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, with the latter their biggest competition for his signature.

Despite a bid of £100m in the summer being rejected by Tottenham for Harry Kane, City continue to be linked with the England international.

If the 28-year-old made the switch up north, he would almost certainly be the Sky Blues’ first choice up top, with Kane a natural goalscorer, winning last season’s Golden Boot - his third overall.

However, as expected, to lure him from North London to Manchester, the club would have to pay a hefty fee.

Erling Haaland - 12/1

Though one of the champions’ top targets this month, Erling Haaland, the son of former City player Alfie Haaland, might not make the move to the Etihad Stadium until at least next season.

The reason for the delay is likely due to the Norwegians’ upcoming release clause coming into effect this summer.

Reports suggest that in the next transfer window, Haaland’s contract will have a release clause of £64m - a fee several of Europe’s top sides will be looking to activate.

The Sky Blues will be hoping that due to his father being an ex-player, this might help persuade the 21-year-old to join the club.

Declan Rice - 16/1

Declan Rice has been linked with several clubs over the past couple of seasons, with City and rivals Manchester United though to be monitoring his situation.

The West Ham United midfielder would be a solid signing for Guardiola’s side, given Fernandinho’s contract expiring at the end of the campaign and Rice’s consistent performances for the Hammers.

Despite their interest in Rice, a hefty price tag of £100m has been set for the England international, something that might fend off City for the time being.

Kylian Mbappe - 16/1

Another forward rumoured to be on the club’s radar is Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman is one of Europe’s most sought-after players and only has six months remaining on his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG could be forced to sell the 23-year-old this month for a cut-price fee, with the Sky Blues believed to be eager on signing a goalscoring No.9.

In 196 appearances for the French club, Mbappe has scored an impressive 150 goals and assisted his team-mates on 76 occasions.

With his contract status up in the air, Guardiola’s side would have to act quickly if they want to sign the forward due to interest from Real Madrid as well.
